One of the most important milestones in any girl’s life will be her “Sweet 16”. This is the special day when a little girl reaches her full bloom and begins growing into the woman she will become. Sweet 16 Party Ideas:

1. Lavish – Why not go all out on this one and throw an extreme event for your birthday lady? They do it on MTV’s Sweet 16 all the time, right? Make this event so extravagant, the high school principal is Tweeting about it. For this type of event, if you have the budget, hiring an events planner would be worth every penny. It does help to have an expert to do the planning, especially if you are curating a lavish event. A planner would host the event and be responsible for gathering the supplies, decorations, food, music, designing the set and for catering to the Sweet 16 princess as well as her guests. The theme, which would be discussed between both birthday gal and event planner, must be electrifying and the party favors have to be just as awesome. This kind of party would probably be best ended with the presentation of a shiny new car to the shiny new 16 year old. 

2. Fairytale – One a princess, always a princess no matter what the age. This theme is a popular choice among parents and celebrants for a Sweet 16. Invited young ladies should be instructed to dress enchantingly lovely. The day should be spent doing things that only princesses do, like getting their nails done, receiving in-home spray tans, having facials done, all while snacking on chocolate covered strawberries, of course. 

3. Slumber Party – This is something that young ladies love to do, plus it is pretty inexpensive! Order some pizza, grab some movies, and decorate the house for a great time! Step 1: Invitations

We always put this as our first step, because that’s how it should go in your party planning journey. This step also includes the part where you select a date, time, and venue to hold the party at. Well, alright, maybe the invitations are actually like the fifth step, but for blog purposes, it will be the first. We have Frozen themed invitations ready to purchase in-store, so you can save your creativeness for the rest of the party. You can include instructions to your guests about dressing in blue, dressing as their favorite character, or even bringing their favorite Frozen toy. Make sure to include an RSVP number as well.

Step 4: Frozen Games

Pin the Nose on Olaf

Simple spin on a classic game! Print out Olaf parts and tape to the wall. Print out carrots, and give each child one with their name on it. Take turns blind folding the children, and letting them have their chance to pin the nose on Olaf. Award a prize to the winner!

Make Your Own Bubble Wand

This simple activity requires pipe cleaners and beads. Pipe cleaners will need to be joined together in the shape of a bubble blower. You can either do this part before hand, or allow the children to do it themselves. Have the beads set up at the table, and let the kiddos have fun beading them on to the wand end of the bubble blower. Twist the end so the beads don’t slide back off. This also gives the children a keepsake to take home with them.

Frozen Trivia

Just as it says! Ask the kids Frozen trivia questions, and award a prize to the child who gets the most answers right.

Frozen Photo Booth

This is another fun way to involve the kids and create lasting memories at the same time. This also gives the parents a little something to remember this special time by. It’s Easter time again, and what easier way to showcase your egg cooking skills, then by whipping up some good old fashioned deviled eggs? Deviled eggs are a crowd favorite, no matter how you make them! Here, we will discover some new twists on an old classic, as well as find new ways to display your deviled eggs for that perfect presentation.

 

Here are a few tips to help you along the way:

• Eggs peel more easily when they’re completely cooled off
• Egg yolks will have a green outer edge when they’re cooked too long. They are still okay to eat, just not as pretty.
• Crack the flat bottom part of the egg first, and then roll around to crack the rest. The flat bottom part usually contains an air pocket that when cracked will allow for easier peeling.
• Put yolk mixture into a piping bag fitted with a 1M tip, or just use a Ziploc bag with the a small part of the corner cut out, and quickly pipe a swirl into the egg white cups – it’s much quicker and cleaner this way.

Recipes:

Skinny Deviled Eggs

Ingredients:

12 eggs
2/3 Cup plain Greek yogurt
1 Tablespoon yellow mustard
1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
salt and pepper to taste (about ¼ tsp. of each)
paprika for garnish

Instructions:

Put your 12 eggs into a pan and add cold water. Use a ½ tsp. of baking soda to the water—this helps the shells peel more easily. Bring the pot to a rolling boil, then turn off the heat, cover with a lid, and leave for 15 minutes. After your time is up, carefully pour out the hot water and run cold water over eggs until they are completely cooled; now, you may peel your eggs. Slice in half lengthwise, and scoop out yolks into a separate bowl. Mash yolks, and stir in mustard, vinegar, salt and pepper and half of the yogurt. Check the consistency – you want it thick, but creamy. Taste mixture and add more mustard and /or vinegar to desired taste.  Add remaining yogurt gradually until desired consistency is achieved. Divide egg yolk mixture evenly into egg white halves, then sprinkle lightly with paprika for garnish.

Jell-O “Deviled” Eggs

Ingredients:

Eggs (makes 3 whole or 6 halves, using the mold shown above):

3 ounce package of Jell-O, any flavor

3/4 cup boiling water

Vanilla filling (makes enough to fill about 24 halves):

8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions:

For the Jell-O portion, prepare it the way the directions on the box advise you. When you’re ready, use plastic eggs, the one that come apart lengthwise, and pour your Jell-O into them for the mold. This will take a little innovation to make them not tip over—you can use foil to put under them to help level things out. If you are lucky enough to own egg molds, then definitely use them. Tip: lightly coat molds with vegetable oil or Pam to help with sticking—do not use butter as it will make tiny bubbles. After the Jell-O eggs are chilled, use a melon ball tool to make a little well in each half.  Pop that little bit into your mouth – cook’s treat. Arrange the prepared halves on a deviled egg tray–do this before you fill the halves, or you’ll have a huge mess on your hands.

To make the filling:

 

Cream together the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Add the heavy cream and whip until stiff peaks form. Put the cream cheese filling into a pastry bag that has been fitted with a large star tip and pipe the filling into the egg halves. Chill until service. Again, you can use a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with a small corner cut out to apply the cream filling. Note: To fill the Jell-O eggs with cream cheese filling more than 6 hours ahead of time, add a packet of Whip It to the cream cheese filling mixture when you add the heavy cream.

Add a bit of alcohol to make Jell-O shots–only for the adults to eat, of course.

Traditional Southern Deviled Eggs

Ingredients:

12 large eggs

1 tablespoon salt

1/4 cup regular mayonnaise, more or less to taste

1 tablespoon Creole, Dijon or yellow mustard

1 tablespoon sweet or dill pickle relish

Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

1/4 teaspoon of Cajun seasoning (like Slap Ya Mama), or to taste

Paprika, for garnish, optional

Instructions:

Put your eggs snug in a pan with little room to move around. Cover with water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring to a full, rolling boil (about 10 minutes on high), then immediately cover the pot and turn off heat, but leave the pot on the stove. Allow to sit covered for 15 minutes. Carefully drain the pot and then cool eggs completely with cold water. Let the eggs rest for 10 minutes.

Peel the eggs and split in half lengthwise, removing the yolks and setting aside the whites. Mash the yolks and add mustard, pickle relish, salt, pepper and Cajun seasoning and stir together, adding only enough of the mayonnaise for desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Pipe the yolk mixture into the egg whites using, either a pastry bag and tips, or place into a plastic storage bag and snip off the corner. Piping not only looks nicer, but it also makes more efficient use of the yolk filling. Serve immediately or refrigerate filled eggs in a covered bowl that leaves room so the stuffing is not disturbed.

Avocado Deviled Eggs

Ingredients:

6 medium eggs, hard boiled and peeled

1 large avocado

3 tsp lime juice,

1 tsp cilantro, minced

2 tbsp red onion. minced

Pinch of salt and pepper.

Top with a dash of paprika or chili

Instructions:

Boil eggs. Then, halve the eggs length-wise, and remove the yolks and set aside. Arrange the egg white halves on a platter for later. In a bowl, mash the avocado and 3 whole egg yolks, until desired consistency. Mix in lime juice, red onion, cilantro, salt and pepper adjust to taste and stir to combine. Spoon the mixture into the egg white halves, about 2-3 teaspoons per egg half. Sprinkle with a little paprika or chili powder for color; then, refrigerate until ready to serve.

Presentation

Colored Egg Halves

This is super easy! All you have to do is add a bit of food coloring to some water, and drop your boiled egg halves, yolk free, into the bowls. Make whatever colors you desire! Leave the egg halves in longer to get deeper colors.

Hatched Ducky Deviled Eggs

This takes a little more skill level, but not much! Cut the tip of your boiled egg off, almost to the back edge, instead of splitting them lengthwise. Make sure to leave it as a flap, but if you accidentally cut it completely off, that’s okay too! You can use the top piece as a hat. Stuff your eggs with your favorite deviled recipe, then add cut olives for the eyes, and either carrots, or the inside of a green olive for the nose!

Cracked Deviled Eggs

Before you take the peel off, while the egg is cracked ready to open, drop them into food coloring filled water. Leave them in longer for deeper colors. Remove, peel as usual, and then follow your favorite deviled egg recipe. Kids love this idea!

Easter is upon us.

Are you thinking, “oh no, I’ve got to decorate eggs again”, or are super excited about this magnificent occasion?  If you really are dreading this task, think about how much fun it can actually be! The following designs are for everyone—including Dad (zombies and Superman, anyone?) So let your inner ar-tist flourish, and get creative, because regardless of what side you’re on, these following Easter egg ideas will have you hopping for joy!

 

First things first, the supplies–number one being: the dye. You can either opt to create the dye yourself (handy dandy recipes down below), or you can go to the store, and buy the easy-to-use tablets. Either way, you must have dye. Other supplies possibly needed for the following ideas are googly eyes, glue, feathers, permanent markers (do not underestimate the power of the permanent markers), panty hose (it will make sense on #7), herbs (same), glitter, temporary tattoos, paint brushes, sponges, and anything else you want to use to add some flair!

How to Make Your Own Special Colors – Paint & Dye DIY Instructions

Dye: ½ cup water + 1 tsp. vinegar + food color

Violet Tulip: 2 drops red, 20 drops blue

Freesia: 1 drop red, 45 drops yellow

Celosia Orange: 2 drops red, 17 drops yellow

Placid Blue: 4 drops blue

Paint: ½ tsp. vinegar + food color

Violet Tulip: 1 drop red, 7 drops blue

Freesia: 1 drop red, 45 drops yellow

Celosia Orange: 3 drops red, 17 drops yellow

Placid Blue: 2 drops blue

To Dye for Egg #1 – Minions

You can’t go wrong with everyone’s favorite little guys, and they are so easy to create!

This first picture is actually just blue and yellow plastic eggs joined together, with a googly eye attached, and some fine Sharpie craftsmanship.  This is also a great example of using fake eggs to make original Easter decorations.

This next example uses real eggs, and the designs are achieved by dipping half into the yellow coloring, and half into the blue, then finishing up with some accessories and details.

To Dye for Egg #2 – Gaming Eggs

In many video games today, there are already plenty of “Easter Eggs” included, if you know what I’m talking about–so why not turn the tables and put some games on your own Easter Eggs. While the skill level to achieve the designs pictured here is basically over 9000, it will still be fun trying to do what you can! Again, do not underestimate the power of the permanent markers.

To Dye for Egg #3 – Swirly Eggs

Swirly eggs are also the professional sounding name I give to most of the eggs I create to cover up for the fact that I either messed up, or totally can’t draw anything else but a loopty-loop; that’s my secret, and I’m okay with it. These eggs can also be referred to as “abstract” and “artistic”, and any child, or adult, can create a masterpiece worthy of famous art galleries using this technique.  Again, do not underestimate the power of the permanent markers.

To Dye for Egg #4 – Cartoon Eggs

If there’s one thing kids know the best, it’s cartoons—and let’s go ahead and give up a round of applause for cartoons creating new content for our children to watch, so it’s less likely that we have to revisit the same exact dialogue and story event over and over and over again…that is, until they want us to buy the season DVD. Anyhow, encouraging your children to make their favorite cartoon character is a good way to get their creativity flowing. Look up pictures on Google and print them out, or use a coloring book or toy for them to reference. Again, do not underestimate the power of the permanent markers.

Zombies have never been more popular than they are today. Heck, there are people practically praying for the Zombie Apocalypse to actually happen while they’re holed up in their underground bunkers. Not that this scenario describes you, of course, but either way, making “Zombeggs” is fun. Have I mentioned yet, to not underestimate the power of the permanent markers?

To Dye for Egg #6 – Super Hero Eggs

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No! It’s an Easter Egg! These are fun eggs to make because there is so many different ways they can be created! The turtle picture is an actual photo of Easter Eggs I created. Yes, you are looking at true artwork there. The eyes were purchased from Wal-Mart on a sticker sheet that cost about a dollar, and the rest is achieved by dye and markers (do not underestimate the power of the permanent markers.) You can recreate the super hero’s symbols, or you can actually attempt to make them—the choice yours!

To Dye for Egg #7 – Herb Stenciled Eggs

This looks like it would be hard to achieve, but it’s actually quite easy. The picture calls for herbs, but any type of flexible stencil will work. Cut out a square piece of some old panty hose and place your stencil in the middle and your egg on top. Pull the panty hose taut and close off with a twist tie, rubber band, or ponytail holder. Set the egg in dye until you get the color you desire, and voila!

To Dye for Egg #8 –Simple White Egg Designs

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE PERMANENT MARKERS. That is all.

To Dye for Egg #9 – Glitter Eggs

Glue and glitter: that’s all you need. Paint the whole thing, slather it in glitter, and beauty is created. Put dots, or rings, or write your name, draw a flower—anything looks good covered in glitter.

To Dye for Egg #10 – Temporary Egg Tattoos

So, this is probably the easiest way to get amazing results. There are temporary tattoos at every store with just about anything on them! Flowers, hearts, super heroes, the Statue of Liberty—you name it. This is also a pretty inexpensive way to decorate your eggs as well. This idea is also easier to execute in terms of messes, and little kiddos can participate without much help!

Paw Patrol is one of the most popular shows on Nickelodean for youngsters, and lucky for us parents, it’s not that bad to have to watch on repeat! Chances also are, that your little boy or girl might want to do a totally Paw Patrol themed birthday! Party Place has just about every item you will need in stock to help you create the perfect Paw Patrol birthday.

Things to Take into Consideration When Choosing a Venue for Your Party:

Depending on when your little one’s birthday is, weather could be a factor if you want to have an outside party. Pool parties, during the Summer months, would work well with this theme, as well as Spring picnic parties at your local park. If your child’s birthday falls in the Winter and Autumn months, opt for an inside party. Hold the event at your home, or pick a party venue. Most cities have inside jump around parks, like the Monkey House in Fort Smith, or skating rinks, movie theaters, and even gymnastic gyms. Your local McDonald’s is another option. Most have party rooms that can be rented, just call to reserve.

Invitations:

For those of us who aren’t Pinterest Mom or Dad of the year with creativity and projects, we have premade Paw Patrol themed invitations available just for you. Basically, all you will need to include is your child’s name, the address of the party venue, the date and time, and a good RSVP number. If you’d like, you can include a price range cap (only bring gifts up to $10, $20, etc). You can even ask your guests to bring their favorite Paw Patrol toy.

Decorations:

Your local bakery should be able to create a great Paw Patrol birthday cake–some even have cakes and cupcakes premade using your child’s favorite Paw Patrol characters.

Hot Dogs–because, why not? Hot dogs are easy to make and inexpensive to buy. Most kids love hot dogs, and it totally goes along with the theme.

Dog Bone Cookies

Sugar Cookies
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 cups flour

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a large bowl cream butter and sugar with electric mixer. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add baking powder and flour one cup at a time, mixing after each addition. The dough will be very stiff. Blend last flour in by hand. Do not chill dough. Divide dough into 2 balls, On a floured surface, roll each ball in a circle approximately 12″ in diameter and 1/8″ thick. Use cutters as guide; the dough should be only slightly thinner than cutter. Use a fork to create the holes in the center. Bake cookies on ungreased cookie sheet on top rack of oven for 6 to 7 minutes, or till cookies are lightly browned.

Games

Adopt a Puppy:

Pick up some tiny stuffed dog animals and display them in a basket. Make sure to include adoption certificates, and encourage each child to take one home with them! Kids will absolutley love this, and it gives them something meaningful to remember this special day. Have fun with your guests by allowing them chances to share the name they picked of their new puppy with everyone at the party. Take pictures of each child with their stuffed animal and post them on an online photo sharing site so parents can have the memory, too!

 

In the “Doghouse” Musical Game: The object of this game is not to get caught in the “doghouse” when the music is stopped. Use a big box to make a doghouse and cut out two doors. You will need a music source (iPod, CD Player, etc) and have someone employed to stop the music periodically. When the music starts, the first child goes through one door of the doghouse and out the other, the next child in line follows the first, and so on. Children continue passing through the house until the music stops. The child who is in the doghouse when the music stops is caught! For younger children, award a prize or sticker to ensure that everyone wins. For older children, the child who is caught is “out” for that game, just as in musical chairs. Continue playing until only one child remains and is named the winner.

 

Romping Rovers: Younger children love pretend play, so they’re sure to enjoy acting like dogs. Ask them to sit, roll over, lie down, and shake a paw.

 

Feed the Puppy: In this variation of a bean bag toss, start with a poster of a dog. Glue the poster onto cardboard, and cut a hole near the dog’s mouth. Hand three real dog treats to each player, and let the children take turns tossing the treats through the hole to “feed” the dog. Award a small prize to any child who gets one treat through the hole and a larger prize to any child who gets in all three treats.

 

Doggy Freeze Dance: Have all the kiddos dance and bark to dog music. When you call “Freeze” and stop the music, everyone has to stop. Anyone still moving after you say “Freeze” is out. Continue playing until only one child remains. Songs to use during this activity could be “Who Let the Dogs Out”, “How Much is that Doggy in the Window,” “Paw Patrol” themesong, or any other song you prefer.
